Christopher Smallwood Architects is a practice, founded in 1976, that specialises in the design and execution of the highest quality residential work. We have undertaken numerous commissions for alterations to Listed buildings in London and the country. In each case we have approached the project in a way that respects and enhances the existing architecture whilst offering an opportunity to fully develop any potential for the property. We have worked on several projects in Ireland, France and the USA and maintain an office in New York.Where a good site has an undistinguished existing building, we have recommended demolition and applying for Planning permission for a new house under legislation for replacement dwellings in the open countryside. Many clients have explored this possibility with us and we have been successful in gaining Planning approval. We are currently building several new country houses on this basis. In each case it is necessary to analyse our clients requirements and the particular nature of the site to produce a design of quality both in terms of architecture and landscape design.
